CORBY LIBRARY 4pm-5.30pm: RESEARCH
After writing down ideas and our experiences in yesterdays session at the community centre (seeing AKALA perform), the young people had a lot of unanswered questions. "What exactly were the refugees fleeing from...which countries...how did they make it to France..." were a few asked out of the many questions they had.
We were given laptops for research. I believe that researching is a big deal of putting out the correct information to the best of our knowledge. It also teaches the young people to dig deeper, learning new words and the meanings and also, to broadening their minds.
They continued to add to their written pieces with this new information, being guiding with any questions they asked in regards to how their spoken word and rap pieces were coming along, We had our own room so we had the space to quietly go through some pieces and constructively help in any way possible.
They also looked at old newspaper stories on the refugee situation. For those who had been shy to speak up, learning more and actually going to France really gave them a boost to speak their minds. They were enthusiastic and motivated in a positive way.
