Overview
HomeFromHome is a project that looks at the life of a refugee, how they got to where they are and why, what they have been through, and have yet to go through. Also, I will compare our lives in the UK to the refugees which will create an empathetic perception of them, as some mainstream agendas can create bad images of refugees, dehumanising them in the process. We have seen how many people see the refugees as a problem and a drain on our society without fully taking time to understand how we are all part of this on a global scale.
Before Starting this project I myself have already visited the Jungle delivering aid such as sleeping bags and tents to get a better understanding myself. This was a couple months back.
But more recently, was invited to a book Launch for a book called 'Breach' written by Olumide Popoola & Annie Holmes on October 5th in Waterstones Piccadilly. They stayed in the Jungle for just under a month speaking to the refugees and experiencing how it is to live in these circumstances. I found this insightful as it broadened my thoughts on how different people see this issue, whether they see it from a political point of view or just as a caring human. I purchased the book 'Breach' and also got it signed for the workshops, I will be reading some of it to the young people for our project.

My aim is to mentor and connect with young people in Corby. I will do this by creating a spoken word / rap / poetry piece to perform to them. They will then participate in a course of workshops. The First part of the workshop will entail the trip to 'Jungle Books' in Calais which has been set up to help educate: https://www.facebook.com/junglebookslibrarycalais/
