TUESDAY 25TH OCTOBER

Kingswood Community Centre 4pm - 6pm:
After the long days travel yesterday to France and taking in some of the traumatic experiences of how the refugees were living, the young people had a lot to say. Topics like "how would the Corby community react to Refugees being re-homed in their area", were asked. They said Corby would be open to refugees being re-homed here. They also discussed how they would feel in the refugees position and imagine if this was happening in Corby, they discussed how we in the UK are responsible in some ways, even by ways of supporting the war without realising by shopping at certain stores that help fund war! They realised there are many things, confusing and intertwining that have brought these people fleeing their homes in order to live...they are also aware that some of the refugees just want a better life and believe that Europe will offer this to them. The young people got into a few heated debates but myself and Logic were able to help see clarity and help them realise this situation is very sensitive to everyone but we must stay calm and think constructively and honestly.
They started to brain storm ideas for their written pieces but also know that some of their questions need answers, so the trip to Corby Library will satisfy their need to know.
After the session at Kingswood community centre we too the young people to see Akala perform Live for his 10 yea anniversary at The Maze in Nottingham. I thought taking them to see another professional Artist perform Live would inspire them especially as Akala speaks on such worldly topics such as what we are focusing on for these workshops. They learnt some tips on delivery, confidence, how a live set up is structured, and how to work and connect with audience. They got to meet him after and were over happy of this experience
